Discover Front Protection
Beamsp:itter
Camera Projection '
Screen
JE?Projector
HOW FRONT PROJECTION WORKS
The principle of front projection is to combine a specially engineered electronic
slide projector with your camera using a beamsplitter. The mirror side of the
beamsplitter reflects the projected slide image to the special screen, while the
camera lens simultaneously records both subject and background light trans-
mitted through the beamsplit ter.
Front Projection is viewed by many professional photographers
as the most exciting development since color film! It is a
process first developed by Hollywood film makers for creating
special effects backgrounds that make it appear in the film that
the actors are actually on location rather than on a stage. Front
Projection has been so successful in Hollywood that it even
received an Academy Award.
The Front Projection process has now been perfected for the
individual studio photographer making it simple for him to
instantly create any imaginable background for his portrait or
commercial subjects merely by placing a slide into a Front Pro-
jector. A special screen 1500 times more reflective than white
and up to 12 x IS feet in size, is positioned behind the subject.
When properly used, there is not even the slightest indication
that the background was artificially created.
As a photographic tool, Front Projection is equally useful to
the large studio owner as it is to the weekend photographer who
seeps his studio "in the closet". A Front Projection system can
je set up and dismantled in minutes or it can be left perma-
iently in place, virtually replacing canvas backdrops. With
.'ront Projection, the photographer will seldom have to travel to
a location and be at the mercy of daylight or weather conditions.
Front Projection brings the world to you, right in your own
studio where you are the master of the environment.
About E.P. S.
Environmental Projection Systems was founded by Dr. Henry J.
Oles, A.S. P. and his wife, Marian, A.S.P.; both holding the degree
of Photographic Craftsman. They began using Front Projection in
the early 1970's in nearly 90% of their studio work while most
photographers were totally negative toward the concept.
The Oles' became involved in teaching and lecturing to
groups around the world and, in 1975, published the popular
instructional package Successful Projected Environmental
Photography: Their many articles about Front Projection have
appeared in all major photographic journals.
Through the use of Front Projection in their own studio and
contact with hundreds of other photographers, while acting as a
The Background-A Powerful Influence!
The background selected for any photograph is the single most
accessable means to vary the statement of the image. To
capitalize on the tremendous communicative potential the
background plays, careful attention must be paid to color, tonal
quality and density to compliment the subject.
The skill of the photographer is manifested in the coordina-
tion of the subject, lighting, clothing and background. What
better tool for the creative photographer than Front Projection
- Instantly, an infinite variety of backgrounds to choose from.
More and more photographers are using Front Projection for
indoor or outdoor environments, high key portraits, and even
"Old Masters" type classic painted backgrounds, surrealistic
exotic backgrounds or just a variety of solid colors.
Front Projection is the creative photographer's dream! It pro-
vides the medium to help the professional photographer win
more business and do a better job with less expense and more
profit - and have more hm doing it'.
deaier for nearly every From Projection system on the market,
the Oles gained invaluable insight into the industry needs.
They knew the good and bad features of every system - but no
system had all the features to satisfy the demanding profes-
sional photographer.
Now was the time for the production of the "Ultimate" pro-
jection system; a clean and simple unit, yet one that included
every important feature necessary for quality professional
photography.
Their extensive experience and frustration with many of the
projectors that they sold, lead to the creation of a totally new
tront projector - THE SCENE MACHINE!
