and the City of Sàn Marcos Water Department on proposed 'water system upgrades. When further information was received on the Lowmans' Ranch deyelopment, a new alternatiye was considered. Because more specific information was provided from the Lowmans' Ranch development detailing their water needs, the new alternative was outlined with more detail as to the phasing of the basin system into 3 distinct phases. This new alternative involved initially installing transmission lines to senice only the Lowmans' Ranch and Cottonwood Creek Park developments west of IH-35 (Figure 8). Wells and a standpipe water storage tank were also proposed to be built initially within the Lowmans! Ranch development since under this alternative the new lines would not be connected to the existing San Marcos system until phase II. Additional facilities, such as elevated storage, were also located to better supply the more specific needs of Lowmans' Ranch. Because the needs of the proposed development are more specifically outlined in the second alternati';e, it was chosen as the proposed alternath-e. The use of a s:andp:pe and a well to be cons:ructed on McCarty Lane at the 770 foot coDtour has been inter grated into the ult:mate system. The facilities ar:d the connecting pipe are to be constructed at the cost of a new development, not specified in this report. The proposed facilities include two 1 million gallon and one 500,000 gallon ground storage tank, a 105,000 gallon elevated storage tank, an additional 100,000 gallon elevated storage tank, a 350,000 gallon and a 500,000 gallon standpipe, a pump station with a final firm capacity of 1000 gpm, an additional pumping station v.ith a final firm capacity of 1500 gpm, five wells with a capacity of 1,000 gpm each, and approximately 35 miles of water transmission line ranging from 8 inches to 20 inches in diameter. The total estimated cost of the proposed facilities to supply water to the study area through the year 2005 is approximately $11,400, 000. The total cost to Lowman Ranch MUD is estimated to be $2,200,000 or 19.5%, and the total cost of Cottonwood Creek Park is approximately $400,000 or 3.2%.
