<br />-2- <br /> <br />(b) Special assignment services duty shifts shall be assiGned <br />monthly on a rotation basis so as to afford equal <br />opportunity to all selected police department personnel <br />desiring special assignment services duty. <br /> <br />(c) Special assignment services under this division shall be <br />performed in ten (10) hour shifts during the police <br />officer's regular ten (10) hour duty shift with the police <br />department, and such police officers shall at all times <br />while on special assignment services duty continue to <br />perform his/her regular police functions and duties <br />unless and until released by the officer in charge at the <br />police department to respond to a fire call; <br /> <br />(d) Police officers, while on special assignment services <br />duty, shall remain under the supervision of the officer in <br />charge at the police department unless and until released <br />by such officer to become actively engaged in the <br />provision of fire suppression services, at which time they <br />shall be under the supervision of the officer or employee <br />in charge of the fire station or fire department or the <br />person in charge at the scene of the fire, whichever is <br />applicable, until the provision by the police officers of <br />fire suppression services is complete and/or they are <br />released to return to regular police duty. <br /> <br />(e) Police department personnel while receiving assignments to <br />perform services under this division, are ineligible to <br />receive assignments for the performance of any other types <br />of special assignment services under this chapter except <br />special assignment services under division 3 of this <br />article which may be performed while concurrently <br />receiving assignments for the performance of services <br />under this division. Nothing herein shall prevent police <br />department personnel from discontinuing the acceptance of <br />monthly assignments for services under this division and, <br />upon such discontinuance, they may become eligible to <br />receive assignments for the performance of another type of <br />special assignment service, subject to the <br />satisfaction of all qualifications, recommendation, and <br />selection requirements for each type of special assignment <br />service and subject to the director's determination of <br />the necessity for any and all types of special assignment <br />services according to the needs of both the police and <br />fire departments. <br /> <br />Sec. <br /> <br />21-33. <br /> <br />Compensation. <br /> <br />(a) Police officers shall be compensated $10.00 per ten (10) <br />hour shift, in addition to regular pay, for <br />performance of special assignment services duty during a <br />regular police duty shift. Such officers shall not be <br />compensated for overtime (any time over ten (10) <br />hours) special assignment services duty performed or <br />for special assignment services duty performed during any <br />period of time other than the officers' regular ten (10) <br />hour police duty shift. <br /> <br />Sec. 21-34. <br /> <br />Status of employees. <br /> <br />Police officers performing special assignment services under <br />this division are in an on-duty status with full workers' <br />compensation, health and medical, disability, pension and <br />retirement coverages and benefits and all other related benefits <br />and coverages. Such police officers shall obey all laws, <br />rules, regulations, and policies of the city and all other <br />applicable jurisdictions while performing special assignment <br />services duty. <br /> <br />Sec. 21-35. <br /> <br />Interference with police officer. <br /> <br />It is unlawful for any person to interfere with a police <br />officer who is performing official duties under this Division. <br />Violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor punishable <br />upon conviction by a fine not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) <br />and not more than two hundred dollars ($200.00). <br />
