<br />Media Contact - By maintaining a close working relationship with the <br />local media, interest in crime prevention has been generated. On the <br />average, there are at least two articles per month published to in- <br />crease the public's awareness. <br /> <br />b. <br /> <br />Projected Accomplishments: <br />page CJD-l6. <br /> <br />Refer to Project Goal Achievements, <br /> <br />c. <br /> <br />Kinds of Data to be Collected: <br /> <br />The data to be collected includes that which is required by grant <br />standards, community crime statistics, Neighborhood Watch crime <br />statistics, intelligence files relating to crime trends within the <br />City, and lists of crime victims to contact for followup interviews <br />to give crime prevention training. <br /> <br />d. <br /> <br />Other Participating/Cooperative Organizations: <br /> <br />The following is a list of the organizations who work with the crime <br />prevention officers in sponsoring and giving seminars: Chamber of <br />Commerce Crime Prevention Council, whose members have sponsored <br />city-wide programs on Operation Identification; Hays/Caldwell Council <br />on Drug & Alcohol Abuse, whose participants assist in arranging <br />public presentations on drug and alcohol abuse; San Marcos Lioness <br />Club, members assist in bicycle registration program; San Marcos <br />Neighborhood Association, members encourage residents to actively <br />involve themselves in the Neighborhood Watch program; San Marcos <br />Independent School District, school officials provide the time for <br />officers to make presentations within the schools; Southwest Texas State <br />University Police Department and Hays County Sheriff's Department, <br />who work closely with the officers to detect and assess crime trends <br />and the proper steps to deal with the problem; civic and business <br />organizations such as the Lion Club, Rotary, and Sertoma, whose <br />members actively support and endorse crime prevention programs. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />Geographic Location: <br /> <br />The area to be served by the program is the City of San Marcos. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />Research or Demonstration Project: <br /> <br />N/A <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />Accomplishments to Date: <br /> <br />In 1986, the Crime Prevention Unit received three awards from the Central <br />Texas Crime Prevention Association. These were - Outstanding Crime <br />Prevention Agency, Outstanding Program Award (for the McGruff Elementary <br />School program), and the Coordinator received First Honorable Mention - <br />Outstanding Crime Prevention Specialist.
