No longer are the
police department and the public at odds as to their role in working with
youth. Both now realize that to successfully turn young offenders into pro-
ductive citizens, is a job for everyone, not just Law Enforcement officials.
The Juvenile Officer has helped to create this awareness within the San Marcos
community.

2.

Results or Benefits Expected:

The results anticipated within this program are to divert juveniles from
criminal activity into productive citizen status. The method to achieve
this is increased school and community contacts with more time spent in
the field. Although a rise in juveniles handled may be noted for a time,
eventually fewer repeat offenders should result in a statistical decline
of youth criminal activity reported.

l5a
