<br /> Historic Preservation Commission <br /> Minutes of November 7, 1985 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Item 5. The Oak Heights Live Oak Tree was presented for consid- <br /> eration as a Historic Landmark by the Commission. <br /> After a discussion of the age of the tree, and who will <br /> maintain the tree, a motion was made by Wolverton and <br /> seconded by Smith recommend to the City Council that <br /> the Oak Heights Live Oak Tree, located in the 500 block <br /> of Franklin Drive, be desinated a San Marcos Historic <br /> Landmark. The motion passed unanimously. <br /> An additional motion was made by Latta and seconded by <br /> Wolverton requesting that the City of San Marcos engage <br /> the services of an arborist to oversee the City crews <br /> in the immediate care of this tree in order to prevent <br /> further deterioration of this landmark. The motion <br /> passed unanimously. <br /> Item 6. Chairman Stedman opened the public hearing regarding the <br /> Downtown Historic District recommendation by the Comm- <br /> ission. Ross King asked a question about what the ord- <br /> inance says about demolishing the buildings. Colley <br /> answered with the details of the procedure for applying <br /> for a demolition permit. Colley also explained that <br /> the ordinance addressed the issue of renovations and <br /> new buildings being visually related. After comments <br /> regarding the status of the Too Bitter building, Gary <br /> Henry, who owns the building, voiced his intentions <br /> for the building in the future. After a number of <br /> questions and answers from Henry, Chairman Stedman <br /> closed the public hearing. <br /> A motion was made by Smith and seconded by Latta that <br /> the Downtown Historic District be recommended to the <br /> City Council for their approval. The motion passed <br /> unanimously. <br /> r- An additional motion was made by Sowell and seconded <br /> I by Smith that the Historic Preservation Commission <br /> , <br /> I membership be expanded to seven members to include a <br /> i represenative from the Downtown Historic District and <br /> I another interested citizen. Also, the word "or" <br /> ; would be struck from the ordinance, Section 3 (d) to <br /> j <br /> I have one member from the Belvin Street Historic District <br /> I and one from the San Antonio Street Historic District. <br /> I <br /> It e 1-.. The motion passed unanimously. <br /> The City Staff had no report. <br /> Item 8. The Commission adjourned at 8:55 p.m. <br />
