on the east is an area which was primarily developed as sanitary land
fill for the City of San Marcos. This land fill has been closed and
the access roads plowed under. Currently, the Gary Job Corps uses
this land for heavy equipment training excercises. The distance of
this property from the airport terminal area precludes any realistic
a.i%port expansicn into this area.

On the south is the Gary Job Corps Center. It is considered to be
bath a physical and political constraint to airport development. on
the southeast is the community of Reedville, which has been covered as
a separate amstraint earlier in this report.

AvJIi lAhle utilities

At the present time, all utilities at the airport are provided through
the Gary Job corps Center. 'lbere are not abundant electrical, water
or sewaqe facilities available for other airport development. If
major industrial or commercial develqment were to be constructed on
the airport it is likely that major utility extensions from the City
of San Marcos (or other utility suppliers) would be required. This is
particularly true if industrial or toxic wastes are involved. However,
the City of San Marcos has indicated that current master planning
includes the developnent of a new wastewater treatment facility in the
far southwestern portion of the existing airport property. The
devel.q:ment of this wastewater treatment facility thus makes extensive
industrial developnent of the southwestern portion of the airport a
viable consideration in the intermediate time frame, once the
utilities and roadway infrastructure are constructed.

A:L.""ece oansL.l.Aoint9

'Dle relative' locations of San Marcos Airport to other area airports is
an important consideration in the development of facilities on the
ground. '!be precise relationship of the airspace allocation for each
airport is of extreme importance, not only in terms of environment but
also in terms of economic considerations.

At present, Bergstrom Air Force Base c::onducts operations wi thin its
airspace primarily along a north-south axis. Approaches made to the
base under instrument calditions are invariably to the south. This,
or course, is in contrast to the operations at Austin Mueller
Airport (Robert Mueller) which are primarily southeast and northwest.

2.3
