Runway U-30 is the primary runway at San Marcos and cannot be closed.
It is also the primary instrument approach runway, and a full
instrument landing system and approach light system has been installed
since the previous master plan was completed.

~....y ~~.LD

A study of taxiway requirements was conducted, considering general
efficiency of airport ground operations. As shown in Appendix C,
Airport Layout Plan, the parallel and stub taxiway adjacent to Runway
12-30, as recommended in the previous plan, has been constructed.
'!his improvement significantly reduces taxi time and overall taxiway
efficiency is improved to all runways originating or terminating on
the north and northwest quadrants of the airport facility. An
additional access taxiway into a future hangar area has been
ocnstructed west of the ~ area and several stub taxiways upgraded.
With these improvements, the existing taxiway system is generally
adequate for future use.

Aizpar:t Ligbt;inq

At the present time, the only runway with lighting is Runway 12-30.
It is recommended that additional lighting be installed on Runways 04-
22 and 08-26.

A VASI-2 (Visual Awroach Slope Indicator) has been installed on the
awxoach to Runway 30. However, as previously recommended, (VASI and
medium intensity approach lighting system has been installed on Runway
12, as was previously recommended, and a new rotating beacon
installed. Taxiway lights are not recommended in order to reduce cost
of operation and maintenance over the 20 year planning period.
Ref1ectorized markers are used instead.

T.ant1taid. ~ lity Jk:qPi. 'l;"._.ls - 1985-2005

Aviation activity at San Marcos Municipal will increase significantly
over the planning period and will create very substantial increases in
demands for facilities. The number of projected operations and
aircraft based at the airport has a direct relationship to facilities
required. Table 3.4 sl'x:Ms the basic facility requirements, in terms
of units or acres, needed for basic aviation activity at the airport
for the period of 1985 through 2005. The current (1985) acreage
requirements are well within the land available under current airport
ownership, with a total of slightly less than 30 acres needed to
accommodate basic aviation functions. OVer the long term, however,
the available land within reasonable proximity to current airport
cp!rations is not adequate.

3.5
