Total long-term aircraft apron area required for itinerant and based aircraft parking is approximately 57 acres: existing apron on the airport is awroximately 58 acres, including the area presently in use by Gary Job Corps. 1dJ:craft JIarvJars General aviation aircraft increasingly represent higher capital investments, and owners will seek facilities that will protect their investment at a nominal cost. Larger hangars for storage and maintenance should be built as demand requires them: however, additiooal maintenance hangar area will be required for the short (0-5 years) and intermediate (5-10 years) time frames. '!be demand for T- hangars and tie-downs will continue as numbers of based aircraft increase. At the present time, there is approximately 60,000 square feet of storage area in the hangars at San Marcos Municipal Airport. There are also 24 T-hanqars. It is estimated that awroximately 82 aircraft can be stored in these facilities. It should be noted l:hat the 60,000 square foot total includes space in six hangars.
