<br />ATTACHMENT A) PAGE 2 <br /> <br />computer system resource accounting, compilation, assembly, storage <br />assignment, data management, and related services. <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />REAL-TIME - The manipulation of data that are required or generated <br />by some process while the process is in operation,; usually the results <br />are used to influence the process, and perhaps related processes, while <br />it is occurring. <br /> <br />b) <br /> <br />INTERACTIVE - Capability of effecting reciprocal activity between <br />the terminal and the central processing unit. <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />ON-LINE - The direct and immediate access to the computer <br />system via input-output terminal devices. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />RESPONSE TIME - The length of time between the end of a <br />transaction entered at a terminal and the display of the first <br />character of the response at the terminal. <br /> <br />c) <br /> <br />MULTIPROGRAMMING - A technique by which two or more <br />independent computer programs or sequences of instructions share a <br />computer or computer network in the same time period and are <br />executed seemingly simultaneously by overlapping or interleaving their <br />executions. <br /> <br />d) <br /> <br />DATA COMMUNICATION - The movement of encoded information <br />from one point to another by means of an electrical transmission <br />system, whereby remote computers and/or remote terminals interact <br />with other computers and share resources. <br /> <br />e) <br /> <br />FIRMWARE - Operating system and/or language processor contained <br />in microcode, generally contained in a read-only memory (ROM) chip. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />APPLICATION SOFTWARE - Software that is problem oriented and in the <br />case of commercial activities may provide data, control and management <br />over accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, <br />budgeting, financial planning, and inventory. <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />LICENSED SOFTWARE - Computer software furnished by a Licensor to a <br />Licensee under the terms of a license. <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />NON-EXCLUSIVE LICENSE - When a Licensee is not the only <br />authorized user of the software. <br /> <br />b) <br /> <br />NON-TRANSFERABLE LICENSE - When a Licensee does not have any <br />right to allow others to use the licensed software. <br /> <br />c) <br /> <br />PERPETUAL LICENSE - A right to use licensed software continually, <br />unlimited with respect to time. <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />DESIGNATED EQUIPMENT - A central processing unit and its associated <br />equipment designated by the manufacturer's sales order serial number. <br /> <br />5) <br /> <br />USE - The transfer of any portion of any licensed program from storage <br />units or media into equipment or using any licensed software in the course <br />of the operation of any equipment or in support of the use of any <br />equipment or program. <br />
