SAND AND GREASE

Grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be provided when wastes
containing these pollutants are discharged into the sanitary sewer
system of the City. Interceptors shall not be required on private
dwellings. Grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be sized and
designed according to the criteria contained in this section.

Design Criteria:

Grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be sized in accordance with
the Uniform Plumbing Code. The
interceptor shall have access into each compartment for the purpose of
cleaning. The interceptor shall be constructed of impervious material
acceptable to the City of San Marcos. The interceptor shall be
capable of withstanding the traffic load where installed. All piping
entering, within, and exiting the interceptor shall be installed
according to the attached diagram.

Manufactured interceptors acceptable to the Director and properly
sized may be used in lieu of on site construction. Where possible,
the interceptor shall be installed outside the building.

Sizing Criteria:

Grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be sized according
following criteria:

to

the

TRAP AND TRAP
KIND OF FIXTURE ARM SIZE FIXTURE UNIT
3 compartment sink 1 1/211, 2. 3, 4
2 compartment sink 1 1/28 1
Dishwasher 2" 4
Garbage grinder 28 4
Wok stove 2" 4
Floor Drains (28, 38, 48) 2., 38, 48 2, 3, 4
*Floor Sinks (3", 48) 3., 48 3, 4

*Note: For indirect waste systems where hub drains and floor sinks
are used as receptors for dishwashers, 2 and 3 compartment sinks, etc.
the fixture unit count shall be twice (2X) the trap arm size.

Mop sink and hand sinks may be required to drain through a sand and
grease interceptor, but shall not be included for interceptor sizing
since they should not effect the grease loading on the interceptor.

-17-
