<br />COUNSELING INDUSTRIES DISCHARGING INDUSTRIAL WASTE <br />TO SAN MARCOS' WASTEWATER SYSTEM <br /> <br />To provide assistance so that industries may <br />Industria~ Waste Ordinance. <br /> <br />comply <br /> <br />with <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Procedure: <br /> <br />When asked by industry personne~ to provide assistance in <br />complying with a known Industria~ Waste Vio~ation, the Environmenta~ <br />Specia~ist wi~~ act as an information source in the water pollution <br />fie~d, inc~uding: explanation of pollution chemistry and the effects <br />of an industry's discharge on the City's waste collection and <br />treatment system, suggestions of accepted methods used by other <br />industries for modifying plant processes to reduce pollutant <br />concentrations and/or water usage, and enumerate various known and <br />established pretreatment methods pertinent to a given industry's <br />waste. However, the Environmental Specialist may not design any <br />pollution control equipment nor, either verbally or in writing, <br />guarantee any suggestions to bring an industry into compliance with <br />discharge parameters. Moreover, the Environmental Specialist is <br />responsible for informing each non-compliant discharger that <br />contracting an engineering firm to design a waste treatment system and <br />guarantee its removal efficiency is the most reliable method of <br />complying with the Ordinance's limits. <br /> <br />-62- <br />
