SAMPLING AND TESTING OF INDUSTRIAL WASTES
FOR PRIORITY POLLUTANTS

To periodically obtain representative samples of industrial waste
discharges from Permittees operating a pretreatment facility to remove
priority pollutants, or who, as designated by the Director, has the
capability of discharging priority pollutants. Samples shall be
testGd for those priority pollutants identified as a potential
constituent associated with a particular permittee process.

Procedure:

I.

Identification of Permittees

Permittees who operate a pretreatment facility to remove a
priority pollutant, or are capable of discharging a priority
pollutant shall be identified and listed. Permit files, Standard
Industrial Classification, and inspection records shall be used
to compile and main-tain the list. Permit name, address, type of
industry, location of sample port and general type of priority
pollutants used shall be detailed.

II.

Sampling and Testing

Methods and procedures to sample a discharge and analyze for
priority pollutants. shall utilize those outlined in "Standard
Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater",
Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) "Methods for Chemical
Analysis of Water and Wastes", and E.P.A. "Screening and Sampling
for Priority Pollutants".

The program shall include periodic sampling for each discharge
identified by the Priority Pollutant Permit list. The
Environmental Specialist shall select the appropriate pollutants
to be tested for.
