Task 410. List Transport/Treatment Alternatives.
In a brainstorming session involving the City, all possible
permutations of transport of wastewater in sewer or force mains and
treatment plant sites will be listed. These alternatives may include
inter-basin flow transfer; consolidation, abandonment, or new sites;
land irrigation treatment of wastewater and/or sludge; flow
equalization; etc.
These alternatives will be evaluated to select several
practical alternatives with the best chance of implementation. These
"few best" alternatives will be described, and a copy of the alterna-
tives to be evaluated in more detail will be sent to the City.
Task 420. Analyze Existing Sewerage System.
The existing trunk sewer system, including pump stations and
force mains, will be analyzed, utilizing a computer program, to
determine carrying capacity. The maximum carrying capacity of each
reach of trunk sewer and each pump station will be tabulated. The
capacity of existing treatment facilities, derated if necessary to
meet effluent limitations, will be given.
Task 430. Analyze Alternatives and Propose Improvements.
-
A hydraulic analysis using computer modeling, of each of the
"few best" alternatives, will be undertaken using the design flows
generated in Task 390. Ini tially, the facilities necessary to satisfy
conditions at the end of the selected design period will be analyzed
for each alternative. The relief trunks, sewer extensions, and pump
station and plant additions will be shown. Existing facilities will
be incorporated into the program to the greatest extent practical. If,
after review of the design year facilities, it appears that phasing of
trunk line construction is justified, it may be desirable to repeat
the analyses using interim design year flows. Facilities n~cessary in
each phase of expansion will be described.
Task 440. Cost Alternatives.
A preliminary opinion of probable cost of each alternative
will be made, taking into account phased construction, if necessary.
22
