Task 620. Predict Future Wastewater Qualitv.
-- . .
Using quality for domestic flow as determined in Task
610, future wastewater quality will be predicted. This will be a
parameter for design of treatment improvements.
Task 630. Determine Effluent Qualit~.
Based on water quality requirements in the receiving waters,
as determined by the State, the effluent quality needed from present,
expanded, or future wastewater treatment plants will be defil'.ed.
Task 640. List Treatment Process Alternatives.
-
For existing, expanded, or new wastewater treatment plants,
viable process alternatives that will allow consistent treatment to
meet effluent alternatives will be listed. These alternatives will
include land treatment of effluent and sludge, alternative and
innovative processes, and convential process trains.
Task 650. Cost Treatment Alternative.
-
To the level that allows realistic comparison of processes,
the treatment alternatives developed in Task 640 will be costed. Both
phased capital costs and operation and maintenance costs will be
developed. For comparison, these costs will be translated to present
worths.
Task 660. Evaluate Effectiveness of Flow Reduction.
--
Based on the flow reductions predicted as possible in Tasks
370 and 380, the decision regarding the cost-effectiveness of removing
a portion of III or implementing a major water saving program will be
made. If it is concluded that flow reduction is cost-effective, flows,
and possibly quality will be revised, for more detailed design of pre-
ferred alternative. Concurrence from decision makers that the flow
reduction program will be undertaken will be solicited.
Task 670. Present Preferred Treatnent Alternative.
Based on results of Task 650 and on input of preferences of
City staff, the preferred treatment alternative will be developed in
greater detail. A writeup of the alternative, together with layout
sketches and predicted capital and O&M costs, will be presented.
Concurrence from decision makers that the preferred alternative is
acceptable will be solicited.
25
