They have also had Christmas lights placed on all <br />the buildings around the Courthouse Square. <br />3. Describe activities, budget, and membership size of local heritage organizations for past two <br />years. <br />Budget: $20,000 annually; Membership 736 <br />The Heritage Association was founded to support preserva- <br />tion and beautification in San Marcos and to add leadership <br />to cultural and historical action in the community. The <br />Association continues those projects that came about be- <br />cause of the city being selected a National Bicentennial <br />City. The Heritage Guild coordinates care of the Charles <br />S. Cock House and manages the Cottage Kitchen, which <br />attracts both citizens and tourists to the National Reg- <br />ister building. The Association sponsors Tours of Distinc- <br />tion the first weekend of May annually and arranges tours <br />of Historic Old San Marcos by appointment. <br />
