53 ORDINANCE 1984-67 AN ORDINANCE OF 'rHE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI'l'Y OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SM~ MARCOS, TEXAS, BY ADDING AN ARTICLE TO BE NUHBERED IX TO SAID CHAPTER PROVIDING FOR 'rHE CREATION OF A SUNSET ADVISORY COHHISSION; PROVIDING FOR THE COHPOSrrION AND APPOINTMEWr OF MEMBERS OF SUCH COMMISSION AND THE FUNCTIONS M~D DUTIES OF SUCH COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR 'rHE ABOLI'rION OF CITY BOARDS, COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES; PROVIDING FOR ASSISTANCE OF AND ACCESS 'ro CITY EMPLOYEES BY SUNSET ADVISORY COMMISSION AND DECLARING M~ EFFEC'rIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas recognizes the necessity of having an advisory commission to aid in identifying the needs and problems brought about by the proliferation and continuation of City boards, commissions and committees¡ and, WHEREAS, there is a necessity for the involvement and participation of the citizens of San Marcos in ascertaining whether particular City boards, commissions and committees continue to be needed or continue to serve a purpose useful and beneficial to the City; and, WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that there lS a need to abolish City boards, commissions and coImnittees which no longer serve a public need¡ now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SEC'rION 1. 'rhat Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of San Marcos, Texas, be amended to add an Article to be numbered IX and entitled "San Marcos Sunset Ordinance" to read as follows: ARTICLE IX. SM~ MARCOS SUNSET ORDINM~CE Sec. 2-135. For the purposes of this article, the words "city board, commission or committee" shall mean: a board, commission or co~TIittee created by the city council whose primary function is to advise the city council; and the word "commission" shall mean: the Sunset Advisory Commission. I Sec. 2-136. Composition; appointment of members. There is hereby established the Sunset Advisory Commission. Such conunission shall be composed of nine (9) citizens of the City of San Marcos, appointed by the city council. Said members shall be appointed to two-year staggered terms with the terms of five (5) of such commission members expiring June 30 of odd-numbered years and the terms of four (4) of such commission members expiring June 30 of even-numbered years.
