<br />53 <br />ORDINANCE 1984-67 <br /> <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF 'rHE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI'l'Y <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF <br />THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SM~ <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, BY ADDING AN ARTICLE TO BE <br />NUHBERED IX TO SAID CHAPTER PROVIDING FOR 'rHE <br />CREATION OF A SUNSET ADVISORY COHHISSION; <br />PROVIDING FOR THE COHPOSrrION AND APPOINTMEWr <br />OF MEMBERS OF SUCH COMMISSION AND THE <br />FUNCTIONS M~D DUTIES OF SUCH COMMISSION; <br />PROVIDING FOR 'rHE ABOLI'rION OF CITY BOARDS, <br />COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES; PROVIDING FOR <br />ASSISTANCE OF AND ACCESS 'ro CITY EMPLOYEES BY <br />SUNSET ADVISORY COMMISSION AND DECLARING M~ <br />EFFEC'rIVE DATE. <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos, <br />Texas recognizes the necessity of having an advisory <br />commission to aid in identifying the needs and problems <br />brought about by the proliferation and continuation of City <br />boards, commissions and committees¡ and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is a necessity for the involvement and <br />participation of the citizens of San Marcos in ascertaining <br />whether particular City boards, commissions and committees <br />continue to be needed or continue to serve a purpose useful <br />and beneficial to the City; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that there lS a <br />need to abolish City boards, commissions and coImnittees which <br />no longer serve a public need¡ now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />SEC'rION 1. 'rhat Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of <br />the City of San Marcos, Texas, be amended to add an Article <br />to be numbered IX and entitled "San Marcos Sunset Ordinance" <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />ARTICLE IX. <br />SM~ MARCOS SUNSET ORDINM~CE <br /> <br /> <br />Sec. 2-135. <br /> <br />For the purposes of this article, the words <br />"city board, commission or committee" shall mean: <br />a board, commission or co~TIittee created by the <br />city council whose primary function is to advise <br />the city council; and the word "commission" shall <br />mean: the Sunset Advisory Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />I Sec. 2-136. Composition; appointment of members. <br /> <br />There is hereby established the Sunset Advisory <br />Commission. Such conunission shall be composed of <br />nine (9) citizens of the City of San Marcos, <br />appointed by the city council. Said members <br />shall be appointed to two-year staggered terms <br />with the terms of five (5) of such commission <br />members expiring June 30 of odd-numbered years <br />and the terms of four (4) of such commission <br />members expiring June 30 of even-numbered years. <br />The length of terms of the original COIillTllSS1On <br />members shall be determined by the casting of <br />lots and no member of the commission shall have <br />
