<br /> "A", Page 10 - 3 - <br /> ATTACHMENT <br /> Dk1\lS <br /> - <br /> We presently have small dams on the Blanco and San Marcos Rivers <br /> which act to retard the flow of water and pose no problem. <br /> A dam has been completed across ~ink Springs which retards the <br /> flow of water from the watershed of the Devil's Backbone, that <br /> floods San Harcos from the Northeast; another is presently <br /> being built on Purgatory Creek which brings water and poses a <br /> flood threat from the Northwest. <br /> These two new dams are earthen fill, retarding dams which retard <br /> many acre feet of water which should control about 80% of our <br /> major previous floods in 1971 and 1981 doing several million <br /> dollars in damage. <br /> One more retarding dam is contemplated on Willow Creek which would <br /> help stop flooding from the West. <br /> HOST CITY <br /> Because of the proximity of Bergstrom Air Force Base, we are con- <br /> sidered in the high priority bracket of nuclear fallout in case <br /> of enemy attack. <br /> We are also host city to J:¡ of the population of Austin should <br /> this occur. <br /> He have prepared for this tBrough Series E, which is a matter of <br /> record with you. <br />
