Selection - All applicants for the position of Reserve Dispatcher/Matron would undergo a thorough background investigation. Each applicant would be interviewed by the supervisor of Records and Communications. The supervisor would make recommendations to the Chief of Police who will make the final selection. Cost: Of ûbvious importance in the creation of a Reserve Dispatcher/Hatroo Unit is the cost to the City. 1. Training - The Department of Public Safety puts on a three day school for police dispatchers. There is no charge for this school. The present minimum overtime pay for dispatchers is $7.85 per hour:> \'/hile minimum overtime pay for police officers is $lQ.Q~per hour. This includes 77 hours of average time added to the 32 hours of the open shifts. For the remaining fiscal budget year) 5 months:> the projected total overtime is 545 hours. By subtracting the volunteer time of 240 hours for the reserves (16 hrs x 3 reserves x 5 monthsl. from the projected 545 overtine hours will leave 305 hours of pai.d. reserve time.
