EXHIBIT "A" Page 1
CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS
1986 SESQUICENTENNIAL MASTER PLAN
PROJECTS AND GOALS:
1. The primary project of the San Marcos Sesquicentennial Co-ordinating
Committee will be to create, by 1986, the San Marcos River Endowment Fund. The
proceeds from this Endov~ent fund will be used to permanently protect and main-
tain the San Marcos River and to insure public access to the River in perpetuity.
Since this beautiful river is such an integral part of our community and sets
us apart from other cities in Central Texas we have decided to try to create an
endowment fund to help protect this unique natural resource.
2. Application has been made for inclusion of the City of San Marcos in the "Main
Street Project".
3. City Parks Restoration and Development. A joint project of the City of San
Marcos and the Soil Conservation Department of the United States Government will
build a new park on the San Marcos River as well as revitalize and further de-
velope existing Parks.
4. The Downtown Neighborhood Association has planned as one of its projects for
the Sesquicentennial the purchase of Christmas lights for the Historic Downtown
area. Lights have already been purchased to outline the courthouse and tops of
buildings around the square. Lights have also been ordered for the Cock House
and City Ha 11. More lights will be purchased in the coming years.
Another project will be the beautification of the Downtown area with trees,
plants and shrubs. A 1 andscape plan is bei ng proposed for the Courthouse grounds.
A third project will be to encourage County and City ~overnment to complete
the restoration of Hays County Courthouse Building.
5. Present a Pageant, "Texas Through the Years" using the original 1936 script.
All Public Schools, SWTSU, San Marcos Academy, and many old timers and their
families will participate.
6. Have a Grand Parade, the week of the Pageant, sponsored by the Heritage
Association and SWTSU. All entries to reflect the Sesquicentennial Theme.
7. Commission an official San Marcos Sesquicentennial float to participate in
Central Texas parades and events in 1985-86.
8. Produce a 1986 Sesquicentennial Junior Miss Contest and program.
9. The Heritage Association will conduct a number of events throughout the year
1986 - Antique Show, Tour of Homes, Harvest Soiree, and Walking Tour of Historical
District.
