City Council Meeting Minutes May 6, 2014 <br />Morgan Knecht, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding the fluoridation of the water <br />supply and to request that the City Council cease the practice. He read a list of high profile cities <br />that have stopped fluoridating. He hopes that we aren't waiting for our business partners in <br />Kyle, Buda and Austin to make the move first. He read the "resolution" that they are requesting <br />the Council to consider. <br />Lisa Marie Coppoletta, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding the removal of fluoride <br />from the water. She stated that the thing that concerns her that the Council would ban smoking <br />and not remove fluoride from the water. She stated the council would allow plastic eggs be <br />dumped in the river for an Easter egg hunt, but not allow Styrofoam or polystyrene in the parks. <br />She stated that she would like to see the Council protect the citizens and that we would like to <br />protect the citizens of San Marcos. <br />John Barthel, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding the CDBG funding request made by <br />CASA. He provided information regarding foster care in Hays County and the process of a child <br />in the system. He stated his hopes that the Council would agree that the CASA volunteers and to <br />fund the requests that have been requested. <br />John Bush, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding the fluoridation of the water and his <br />hopes that the City will move forward with considering the removal. He provided several <br />personal reasons why he would like to see the removal. <br />Catherine Bleish, San Marcos, addressed the Council to regarding the removal of fluoridation of <br />the water, and asked that the Council stop the practice. <br />Brett Hendrick, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding the fluoridation of the water <br />supply and asked that the council end its practice of fluoridation of the water supply. He <br />provided information regarding a Harvard study in conjunction with the University of the China. <br />Carol Grimm, San Marcos, addressed the Council regarding CASA's request for CDBG funding <br />and asked the Council to consider their request. She provided her experience with CASA and <br />stated that they need the additional room. <br />Rob Roark, San Marcos, addressed the Council and asked them to support CASA's request for <br />CDBG funding. Secondly, he asked the Council to listen to the people and while we need to <br />have new businesses, but to listen to the people and consider the public health. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />A motion was made by Mayor Pro -Tem Thomaides, seconded by Council Member Prewitt, to <br />approve the consent agenda with the exception of item 9, 10, 11 which were pulled and <br />considered separately. The motion carried by the following vote: <br />For: 7 - Mayor Guerrero, Mayor Pro -Tem Thomaides, Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Becak, <br />Council Member Thomason, Council Member Scott, Council Member Prather and <br />Council Member Prewitt <br />Against: 0 <br />6. Consider approval of the following minutes: <br />April 15, 2015, Regular Meeting <br />April 29, 2015, Special Called Meeting <br />7. Consider approval of Ordinance 2014 -23, on the second of two readings, setting the <br />rate for Wholesale Water Treatment at the City's Surface Water Treatment Plant at <br />City of San Marcos Page 3 <br />
