<br />RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SURFACE WATER ALTERNATIVES <br />I. No/low Cost Strategies for Remainder of FY 88-89 <br /> A. Continue to research and negotiate reserving/purchasing <br />surface water from Canyon lake Reservior through the <br />Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority. <br /> B. Continue efforts to support the protection of the Edwards <br />Aquifer/San Marcos River and San Marcos Springs, ex. support <br />GBRA lawsuit. <br />II. Recommendations for FY 89-90 <br /> A. Pursue the use of treated wastewater for non-potable <br />purposes. <br /> B. Set aside an additional $88,000 to purchase surface water <br /> C. Continue the five cent per 1,000 gallon surcharge on <br />water bills for surface water development <br /> D. Decide the need/viability of a surface water treatment <br />plant; condu~t additional studies if necessary <br /> E. Select or appoint a blue ribbon commitee for a city bond <br />election to include a surface water treatment plant. <br />III. long Term Planning Strategies and or CIP Projects <br /> A. Continue efforts to use alternative water resources for <br />the City of San Marcos ( including surface water, regional water <br />plans and efforts; and the use of grey water and treated <br />wastewater. <br /> B.Undertake long range plans to implement a surface water <br />treatment system if that is a viable option. Implement such a <br />system. <br />
