He thanked the <br />Council for their service. He stated his concern with rescinding and <br />repealing Ordinance pertaining to taxation of Freeport property. He stated <br />he does not feel there is evidence that businesses are not coming to San <br />Marcos because of this Ordinance and the Council needs to research the <br />shortfalls it may cause in the budget. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced Staff Report. 1) Mr. O'Leary stated there will be <br />a Blood Drive on Saturday, January 20th at the VFW on Hunter Road. He <br />stated this Blood Drive will be held from 9:00 to 3:00, and will benefit <br />Iraq. 2) Mr. O'Leary thanked the citizens of San Marcos for staying off <br />the streets during the ice storm. He stated by staying off the streets <br />allowed for less emergencies and crews to focus on real emergencies. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced City Council Report. 1) Mr. Thomaides thanked the <br />Utility Department for their hard work during the last ice storm. He <br />stated the power was out for about 5 hours and the Electric Utility <br />Department had workers out to repair a utility pole immediately. 2) Ms. <br />Couch thanked Dan O'Leary and his staff for making the Council look good. <br />She also thanked Melissa Millecam for keeping the Council and the citizens <br />informed. 3) Ms. Couch stated she attended the Economic Development <br />meeting on Thursday. 4) Mr. Bose stated he felt Mr. O'Leary and his Staff <br />are performed well during the tornado and the ice storm. He also thanked <br />Mr. Guerrero for filling in for the Mayor while she was stuck in Chicago. <br />5) Mr. Guerrero thanked Ken Bell and all City Staff, especially utility <br />workers for their hard work during the bad weather. 6) Mr. Guerrero <br />thanked Staff for their acknowledgement after the loss of his grandmother. <br />7) Mr. Guerrero stated he had attended Leadership San Marcos City and <br />County Government reception. He also thanks to Chief Williams for providing <br />the meeting area. 8) Mr. Guerrero stated he also attended a meeting with <br />AARP. 9) Mr. Jones thanked Mr. O'Leary for their organization during bad <br />weather and that it seemed like San Marcos didn't have as many problems due <br />to ice on roads. 10) Mr. Jones thanked Mr. Guerrero for filling in while <br />
