<br />178. <br /> <br />Special Meeting <br /> <br />January 5, 2006 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />on several Austin Community Development projects Mr Martinez closed by <br />stating he feels the best characteristics for an Economic Development <br />Director are to have a good line of communication, goals and be willing to <br />work to achieve them Mr Martinez stated he is a hard-working person with <br />the theory, if you don't work, you don't get paid He stated he has been <br />involved with the Chamber of Commerce in many Cities for several years He <br />stated he is also single with no ties and available to dedicate himself to <br />the job <br /> <br />Margie Moore introduced the third candidate Susan pullig Ms Pullig <br />stated she was born in Texas and worked for the City of Houston She <br />stated she moved to New Orleans in 1987, where she worked for the City <br />during the day and worked on her Masters Degree at night Ms pullig <br />closed by stating she has an analytic brain and feels San Marcos should <br />have a lot of business prospects She stated she feels she can create new <br />projects and make them work <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Council then rated the Candidates and passed them to Mr O'Leary for <br />tabulation Mayor Narvaiz inquired if the Council felt they needed to <br />interview more candidates Mr Bose stated he felt he had seen enough <br />Candidates to make a decision Mr Jones stated he would like to see <br />additional Candidates Mr Mihalkanin stated he felt he had seen enough <br />Candidates to make a decision Mr Guerrero stated he felt he had seen <br />enough Candidates to make a decision Mr Thomaides stated he felt he had <br />seen enough candidates to make a decision Mayor Narvaiz stated she felt <br />she has not seen the right person yet The Council agreed by consensus <br />that they had seen enough candidates to make a decision Mr O'Leary <br />stated Ms Pullig had received an overall average of 1 4 and the other two <br />candidates had tied with a 2 2 average He stated Ms Pullig received a <br />majority and is the top Candidate He stated in the new Economic <br />Development contract the Council has a role in the selection process of the <br />Economic Development Director who will work for GMG He stated the <br />Director is the front person for the City in regard to economic <br />development He stated the new contract provides more direct <br />accountability to the Council Mayor Narvaiz inquired if the Council wanted <br />to direct negotiations to proceed for the Economic Development Director <br />with the Candidate with the majority vote Mr Guerrero stated he did not <br />like the structure of the interview which he felt made the Candidate more <br />uncomfortable, especially being on television Mr Thomaides stated he is <br />interested in going a different direction Mr Diaz stated this was an <br />expedited process and the majority has made a selection Mr Jones stated <br />he does not support the Candidate with the majority vote He stated the <br />Economic Development Director can make or break the future of the City, and <br />he has not seen the right person for the job Mr Mihalkanin stated the <br />Council has been dealing with Economic Development for a quarter of the <br />fiscal year, and now it is the second quarter, and the City needs a working <br /> <br />I <br />
