<br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />January 9, 2006 <br /> <br />107. <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />information regarding light synchronization, accident information and <br />pedestrian/bike lanes. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding Economic Development <br />Contract and direction to Staff. Margie Moore, owner of Global Marketeer <br />Group, stated she feels none of the candidates interviewed last week was a <br />clear choice. She requested an additional 30 days to continue searching <br />for the right Economic Development Director. She stated she is still <br />receiving resumes. She stated she plans on publishing in the Texas <br />Economic Development Commission's and Texas Municipal League's website, and <br />making an announcement at the Winter Economic Development Conference at <br />South Padre Island. The Council agreed by consensus to provide an <br />additional 30 days for GMG look for the right Candidate. Mr. Mihalkanin <br />stated he feels GMG should be publicize in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, <br />San Antonio and San Marcos papers. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding City Council direction on <br />future agenda items. 1) Mr. Thomaides stated he would like to bring back <br />a discussion regarding downtown, pedestrian traffic, new traffic lights and <br />equipment to make downtown pedestrian friendly. The Council agreed by <br />consensus to bring back a discussion item. 2) Mr. Jones inquired whether <br />there is a discussion of a parking garage downtown. Mr. O'Leary stated <br />there has been proposed parking garage in the works. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the Government <br />Code, Section 551.072 and 551.073, to discuss the purchase of real property <br />(South Highway 123 area); exchange of real property (North <br />IH35 area); Section 551.074, to discuss the duties of a public officer or <br />employee (City Manager); and Section 551.087, to discuss commercial or <br />financial information the City has received from a business prospect that <br />the City seeks to have locate, stay or expand in or near the City and with <br />which the City is conducting economic development negotiations, or to <br />deliberate the offer of a financial or other incentive to such a business <br />prospect (IH3S/McCarty Road area; new office building proposal). The <br />Council adjourned into Executive Session at 8:57 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz announced the Council would reconvene at 10:03 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration adoption or direction to Staff <br />on matters discussed in Executive Session. Mr. O'Leary stated the Council <br />discussed and provided directions regarding purchase of real property in <br />South Highway 123 area and exchange of real property in the North IH35 <br />area. He stated the Council also provided direction regarding duties of a <br />public officer, business prospect for new office building and incentive for <br />IH35/McCarty Road area. <br /> <br />I <br />
