The Council and Planning and Zoning <br />Commission adjourned into Executive Session at 6:02 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz announced the Council would reconvene at 6:58 p.m. (See Page <br />8 for continuation of Executive Session) . <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration adoption or direction to Staff <br />on matters discussed in Executive Session. Mr. O'Leary stated the City <br />Council discussed the CUp/SUp and provided direction on how to proceed. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz lead the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Citizen Comment Period. 1) Todd Derkacz stated <br />he wished to speak on Item #24, a discussion and presentation regarding <br />Bike/Pedestrian projects. He stated he supports the Bike/Pedestrian <br />Projects and is glad the Council is providing an update. He encouraged the <br />Council to support the Bike/Pedestrian Projects and to help make San Marcos <br />a bike and pedestrian friendly City. He also stated he feels educating the <br />public regarding bike and pedestrian safety is necessary and feels the I <br />education should begin at the schools. 2) Ed Davis wished everyone a Happy <br />4th of July. He stated two of our forefathers, George Washington and <br />Abraham Lincoln, were known to have saved animals. He encouraged the <br />Council to stop the killing of animals in the shelter. 3) Michelle <br />Bussemey stated she wished to speak on Item #24, a discussion. She <br />encouraged the Council to support the connectivity of sidewalks within the <br />City for the bike and pedestrian users. She stated she has completed a <br />Volunteer Interest Form and is interested in serving on the Parks Advisory <br />Board. 4) Gordon L. Sabin stated he wished to speak on Item #24, a <br />discussion. He stated he is a member of the League of America Bicyclists. <br />He stated people are beginning to ride bicycles for transportation, and <br />many more would do so if the City was more bicycle friendly. He stated he <br />feels separate lanes for bicycles and pedestrians are not always needed, <br />they just need to be clearly marked. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Staff Report. Mr. O'Leary stated he did not <br />have a Report. <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the City Council Report. 1) Kyle Morris stated he <br />attended the initial meeting of the Good Neighbor Program, which was <br />successful. He stated the goals and the messages that needed to be receive] <br />by both the students and long term residents were discussed. He stated he <br />has offered the services of Student Government to Chief Williams in regard <br />to his neighborhood walks with other City leaders. 2) Kyle Morris stated <br />the Student Government supports the Bike and Pedestrian Projects.
