1.7.21 Review and make all decIsions regarding the approval or taking of other appropriate action upon the Contractor's submittals, IncludIng but not lImited to, shop drawIngs, product data and samples, schedule of values and progress schedule and verify that submIttals are consistent with the requirements of the construction contract. Such action will be taken with reasonable promptness, but generally not to exceed 30 days or such period of time as will not cause delay of the Project. The Engineer wIll advise the Contractor of any areas where the schedule is not In compliance with the construction contract and will provide comments to the City to assist the City in approving, accepting or takIng other action on the contractor's schedule, in accordance wIth the construction contract. In additIon, the Engineer will review the Contractor's periodIc schedule updates or other schedule submIssions and wIll advIse the Contractor if the updates or other submIssions are not in accordance with the construction contract. The Engineer will provide comments to the City regarding the updates or other submissions as provided by the Contractor. The EngIneer's reVIew and comments will not be considered as a guarantee or confirmatIon that the Contractor will complete the work In accordance with the contract for construction. 1.7.22 Provide wntten responses to the Contractor's request for interpretation or clarification of the contract documents and will obtain from the Contractor a proposed shop drawIng and submittal schedule, whIch wlll identify all shop draWIngs, samples and submittals required by the contract for construction, along with the antIcipated dates for submission. The Engineer will provide review of the Contractor's shop drawings, samples, and other submittals and will log and track all shop drawings, samples and submittals. It IS assumed by both parties that the Contractor will make less than 80 submIttals and 40 re-submittals. The Engineer's review of all shop drawings, samples and submittals wIll be for general conformance with the design concept and general compliance with the requIrements of the contract for construction. Such review will not relieve the Contractor from its responsibIlIty for performance in accordance with the contract for construction, nor is such review a guarantee that the work covered by the shop drawIngs, samples and submittals is free of errors, InconSIstencies or omIssions. The Engineer's scope will be based upon the scope of work in the constructIon contract and will include a maXImum of two submissions by the Contractor for each shop drawIng, sample or submission. Should there be addItIonal reVIews required due to no fault of the Engineer, the Engineer will be entitled to addItional compensation from the City. The Contractor performing the work will ultimately be responsible for the payment of compensation due the EngIneer for the performance of additional reviews as set forth in the ConstructIon Contract between the City and the Contractor. 1.7.23 The Engineer will review the Contractor's RFI or clarification of the construction contract and will coordInate such review with the City as appropriate. The Engineer will coordinate and issue responses to approximately 80 RFI or clarifications as requested by the contractor for the duratIon of the Project. The Engineer WIll log and track the Contractor's requests. 1.7.24 Assist the City in reviewing and responding to the Contractor's requests for substitutIon of materials and equipment and will advise the Owner as to the acceptability of such substitutions. 1.7.25 Authorize minor variations/field instructIon and prepare minor changes in the plans and Wet Weather Improvements Project - CH2M Hill 11
