Regular Meeting November 20, 2007 Page 8 <br />the disconnect of electricity, which was to give the City more teeth and <br />then Council found out the Ordinance will not allow the Police on the <br />premise. Chief Williams stated Staff has been working to hold a Town and <br />Gown Conference in College Station. He stated the current Ordinance worked <br />in a limited way, he stated he does not want to see Staff come in with <br />another Ordinance that creates a bigger problem in another neighborhood. <br />Mr. Jones thanked Staff for thinking outside the box and finding something <br />that works. He encouraged Staff to find a solution that will not divide the <br />community. Mr. Jones stated he would like to see a breakdown of the <br />citations issued. Mayor Narvaiz stated she appreciated the update on <br />community issues. She stated Staff will have to help educate the community <br />regarding the enforcement of the current Ordinances. She stated she <br />appreciates Staff getting a grasp at what the law is and to work together to <br />reach a solution. Ms. Jamison stated Staff will bring back to Council their <br />suggestions with Ordinances, partnerships, manpower or resources to help <br />resolve this issue. Mayor Narvaiz stated if there is an agreement that can <br />be done on sharing resources with the University Police Department, then <br />this should be brought before Council. Ms. Jamison stated there are some <br />Ordinances that University Police Department can enforce and does enforce on <br />campus. Mr. Thomaides stated he feels nothing will be successful unless <br />Council engages Texas State students on the issue. Chief Williams stated <br />Staff will be happy to address the Alliance Student Government when Staff is <br />at the stage to bring them in. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the Government <br />Code, Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice regarding a <br />proposed contract with San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce for Economic <br />Development Services; Section 551.074 to discuss the evaluation of public <br />officers (Dan O'Leary). The Council adjourned into Executive Session at <br />8:35 p.m. <br />Mayor Narvaiz announced the Council would reconvene at 10:15 p.m. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration adoption or direction to Staff <br />on matters discussed in Executive Session. Ms. Jamison stated the City <br />Council discussed the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce Development <br />Services and provided direction. She also stated the Council provided the <br />evaluation of Dan O'Leary. <br />The meeting adjourned at 10:16 p.m. on a motion made by Mr. Jones and <br />seconded by Mr. Thomaides. <br />L <br />
