17
Regular Meeting December 4, 2007 Page 11
Porterfield stated she feels if the City went out for bids on the commercial
side then TDS could provide a bid. Mayor Narvaiz stated she would like to
renew with TDS for residential services and look at menu options for this
service. She also stated she would like to look at the commercial side thru
a bid process if the Council wanted to consider a soleprovider of commercial
services, but not close the door for TDS providing commercial service. Mr.
O'Leary stated Staff will present a residential contract for approval with
an option menu. Ms. Couch stated as a business owner, she would prefer the
individual providers for commercial. Mr. Jones stated he feels the Council
can do a bid process for commercial and if not satisfied then reject all the
bids. Mayor Narvaiz stated currently there is a consensus for the
residential menu with contract. She stated there is not a consensus
regarding the commercial side, but feels the sole provider issue should be
reviewed.
Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding the 2008 State of the City
and direction to Staff. Mr. Thomaides stated since the State of the City
is a report of the City, City Council and City Staff, he feels Council
should have a say on when this event is held. He stated he feels most
cities hold this event at the beginning of the fiscal year, but most cities
hold their elections in May and San Marcos holds their elections in
November. He stated he feels that San Marcos should hold their State of
the City after the elections. Mr. Bose stated he feels the State of the
City should be a report of the City and held after the elections. Mayor
Narvaiz asked if any other Council Member wanted to add to the discussion,
receiving no other comments, Mayor Narvaiz reported the State of the City
is currently scheduled for October 13, 2008 at the Activity Center.
The meeting adjourned at 10:14 p.m. on a motion made by Mr. Guerrero and
seconded by Ms. Couch.
Kim Porterfield
Council Member
Susan Narvaiz
Mayor
Gaylord Bose
Council Member
J
