<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas,
<br />desires to provide for the public safety, health and general
<br />welfare of those persons within the corporate limits of said
<br />City through setting standards for the construction, alteration,
<br />repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance,
<br />removal and demolition of buildings and structures or any
<br />appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures
<br />located within said city limits; and,
<br />WHEREAS, said City Council hereby finds and determines that
<br />the Standard Building Code, 1979 Edition, and the 1980-81- Revisions
<br />to the 1979 Edition, with the amendments hereby approved, so
<br />provide for said public safety, health and general welfare; now,
<br />therefore,
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS,
<br />TEXAS:
<br />SECTION 1. That Article II, entitled "Building Code," of
<br />Chapter 5, entitled "Buildings and Building Regulations," of
<br />the Code of Ordinances, City of San Marcos, Texas, is hereby
<br />amended to read as follows:

<br />Buildings and Building Regulations
<br />Article II. Building Code
<br />Division 1. Generally
<br />Sec. 5-16. Adopted.
<br />There is hereby adopted by the City of San Marcos,
<br />Texas, for the purpose of establishing rules and regula-
<br />tions governing the construction, alteration, removal,
<br />demolition, equipment, use and occupancy, location, and
<br />maintenance of buildings and structures including per-
<br />mits and penalties, that certain building code known
<br />as the "Standard Building Code", being particularly the
<br />1979 edition thereof, published by the Southern Build-
<br />ing Code Congress International, Inc.,,of Birmingham,
<br />Alabama 35213 and the 1980-81 Revisions thereto, save
<br />and except such portions as are hereinafter modified
<br />or amended, of which not less than three (3) copies of
<br />both said code and revision have been and now are filed
<br />in the office of city secretary of the City of San Marcos,
<br />and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as
<br />fully as if set out full length herein, and from the
<br />date on which this section shall take effect, the pro-
<br />visions thereof shall be controlling in the construction
<br />of all buildings and other structures therein contained
<br />within the corporate limits of the City of San PZarcos,
<br />Texas.
<br />Sec. 5-17. Improvements on unplatted property.
<br />No building permit shall be issued for improvements on
<br />unplatted property.
