~ h Lj.,/L) -1!J. ~,

12A

We, Rebecca Bray and Myra Westover, owners of Wesray's Cafe, 215

N. LBJ, San Marcos, TX are petitioning for increased lighting and

police activity in the form of foot patrols and/or mounted horse
patrols within the downtown area. The reason for this petition
is due to the increase of violence, drug use and vandalism in the

dOlrmtown ar ea.

Our business and others in the downtown area require late night

hour::::; .

We close at 10 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday

nights. It is approximately 11 PM or later when we leave for the

night and at times have a large amount of cash on hand. Within

the last 6 to 8 months there has been an increase in the number

of young people, many between the ages of 13 and 17, loitering in

the 2 to 3 blocks north of the courthouse on LBJ.

An article in the

edition of the San Marcos Daily

Record reports a "free-for-all" fight involving approxi-

mately 20 youths from Kyle and San Marcos, 3 of which were
hospitalized for stab wounds. This and other violent incidents,

coupled with an increase in vandalism to downtown merchants in

the last 6 to 8 months, has forced us to become concerned about

the safety of our customers, employees, citizens, ourselyes and

our business.
