Ron Patterson <br /> Police Chief Larr¥ Kendrick <br />Also Present: Tom Wassenich, Dianne Wassenich, Katherine Cannon, <br />Scott Maier, Gwen smith, Sue Cohen, Collette Duran, George <br />VonderLippe, Virginia VonderLippe, Phil Neighbors, John Holterman, <br />Collete Davis, Ellie Stewart, William Ford, Tom Goynes, James Lux <br />and others. <br />Mayor Morris called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br />Mayor Morris introduced the ten-minute citizen comment period with <br />the City Council. (1) Earnest (Tom) Arledge of the Heritage <br />Neighborhood Association stated there is a problem in the Heritage <br />area and hopes the Council will listen to the proposals of other <br />members to bring resolution. (2) Jamie Doty of the Heritage <br />Neighborhood stated traffic is their main concern and wants the city <br />to take a proactive approach and consider the use of speed bumps, <br />weight limits on the residential streets and indicated there is no <br />safety on the streets and wants the city to work with them for a <br />short term solution. Ellie Stewart stated a long term solution to <br />the traffic problem on San Antonio Street is to move the railroad <br />tracks as per a city plan from Hunter Road to a new location and get <br />this into the Master Plan. The residents of Hopkins, San Antonio, <br />Belvin and Burleson Streets want to work with the city. Staff is <br />reviewing the proposals submitted and information will be <br />forthcoming at the February 27 Council Meeting. The Heritage <br />Association believes their neighborhood should be preserved. (3) <br />Gwen Smith, resident of San Antonio Street, read a poem to the <br />Council regarding this subject. (4) Gary Katz attended SWT <br />beginning in 1991, graduating in 1994 and decided to make San Marcos <br />his home. He is in partnership with Brady Johnson and renovating a <br />home in Rio vista at Haynes Street. They hope to renovate other <br />homes and fix up the run down properties of this neighborhood to <br />create a clean, safe neighborhood. He stated there is a gang <br />problem in the area. <br />Mayor Morris introduced for consideration Item 10.F., approval of <br />the appointment of a new Assistant city Attorney by the city <br />Attorney. Mr. Taylor extended congratulations to Collete Davis, the <br />current Assistant city Attorney, who has been with the City for <br />almost three years, in her move to South Carolina and marriage in <br />the near future. Mr. Taylor introduced Mario Gutierrez and <br />recommended his approval of appointment by the City Council. Mr. <br />Hernandez moved to approve the appointment of Mario Gutierrez as <br />Assistant City Attorney and Mr. Moore seconded the motion, which <br />passed unanimously. <br />* Mr. Guerra present at 7:57 p.m. <br />
