City Council Meeting Minutes June 7, 2016 <br />further action at a future meeting. <br />• : _ ,1, e mil <br />3. Receive a presentation and hold discussion regarding permanent downtown lighting <br />and temporary holiday lighting, and provide direction to Staff. <br />Kevin Burke, Economic and Development Projects Coordinator, provided the <br />Council with a presentation regarding permanent downtown lighting and <br />temporary holiday lighting. Following discussion the Council provided <br />direction to move forward with the lighting as proposed except the overhead <br />street lighting. In addition, they would lake to see lighting on the Hopkins <br />Street Bridge, Charles S. Cock House Museum, and gazebo in Juan Veramendi <br />Park. <br />V. 30 Minute Citizen Comment Period <br />Ty Stonecipher, spoke in support of the removal of Cape's Dam and stated that <br />individuals that were present supporting the restoration of the Dam had been <br />lied to. He stated that it is very important to remove these decommissioned <br />dams. He urged the City Council to listen to logic and reason and not mob <br />rule. <br />Brian Olson, played a video showing the Mill Race and the Cape's Dam, and <br />encouraged the Council to keep the Mill Race if possible. He encouraged the <br />Council to have a discussion to reconsider this item. He stated that there were <br />a lot of new things that have come to light. One of them being that the dam is <br />on the National Register of Historic Places. He also spoke about issues that he <br />has with Dr. Hardy's study and possible inaccurate information that is being <br />provided. <br />Rio Rodriguez, thanked the Mayor and Council for listening to everyone and <br />one of the main reasons that he ended up in San Marcos was because of the <br />river. He hopes that the Council will not rush into anything and evaluate all of <br />the information being provided so that the best possible decision can be made <br />regarding the river. <br />Mike Schlimgen, encouraged the Council to not remove Cape's Dam and <br />explained his experience with the river kayaking and fishing. He stated that he <br />is familiar with the Mill Race due to river clean ups in that area. He stated that <br />there is not any other ADA access to the river other than the Mill Race and <br />City of San Marcos Page 2 <br />
