75
Regular Meeting
November 4, 1996
Page 9
notification. Mr. Gilley stated it is impossible for Staff to
always know who a street was named after, and this is a good
example. It may be obvious to some which Perkins this street was
named after, but Staff would not necessarily know. Mr. Hart stated
when the name Perkins was taken away and Hood was given, fewer
people were affected by the loss of Perkins than the gain of Hood.
Ms. Hughson stated possibly Perkins could be used if another street
in that area needed to be renamed, for example the Eastern segment
of Nevada Street, which-is not contiguous to the main part of Nevada
Street.
Mayor Moore introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the
Government Code, Section 551.071, to discuss pending litigation
(Sierra Club vs. San Antonio, Kencon Constructors vs. San Marcos)
and matters where the City Attorney's ethical duty to the City
clearly conflicts with Government Code Chapter 551 (Development
incentive applications - Flynn subdivision; Mendez subdivision;
Hadco tax abatement application) and Section 551.074, the evaluation
of public employees (City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary,
Municipal Court Judge). Mr. Hernandez moved to adjourn into
Executive Session at 10:24 p.m. and Mr. Hart seconded the motion,
which passed unanimously.
Mr. Hernandez moved the Council reconvene at 12:56 a.m. and Mr.
Guerra seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Mayor Moore introduced for consideration approval to set salaries of
Council appointees. Mr. Guerra moved to set the salary of the City
Secretary at $40,000.00 (increase of $1,776.00) and increase the
Municipal Court Judge's salary at $55,226.08 (increase of
$2,124.08), effective October 1, 1996, and Mr. Hernandez seconded
the motion, which passed unanimously. The City Manager and City
Attorney's evaluations will be rescheduled for the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 1:03 a.m. on motion made by Mr. Hart and
seconded by Mr. Hernandez.
4Ed Mihalkanin
Council ember
Ronald K.
