They <br />have a goal to be a center of community connection and doing that through a <br />design that harmonizes with their surroundings. <br />Camille Phillips, PO Box 172, she spoke in favor of this expansion and stated that <br />she has been involved with neighborhood preservation throughout the community <br />for 21 years. She does not want San Marcos to turn into a second-class copy of <br />Austin or San Antonio. She spoke about the historical significance of the Lamar <br />School and that it is history worth preserving. <br />There being no further speakers, Mayor Thomaides closed the public hearing 8:35 <br />p.m. <br />Council held discussion regarding buffer zone options. <br />Staff will put together a scope of the historic survey and will bring it back to the <br />Council following vetting by Historic Preservation Commission. <br />Main Motion: A motion was made by Council Member Gregson, seconded by <br />Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Prewitt, that Ordinance 2017-34 be approved. <br />Motion to Postpone: A motion was made by Council Member Gregson, seconded <br />by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Prewitt that Ordinance 2017-34 be postponed until an <br />updated survey has been completed. Consider approval of Ordinance 2017-16, on the second of two readings, creating a <br />designated permit area under Section 82.189 of the San Marcos City Code that allows <br />parking by permit on both sides of the 400 to 700 blocks of McGehee Street between <br />Cheatham Street and the southern Terminus of the street, 8:00 am to 11:00 pm every day, <br />during and including the months of February through November; amending the traffic <br />register to reflect such designated permit area; and providing for an effective date. <br />A motion was made by Mayor Thomaides, seconded by Council Member <br />City of San Marcos Page 9 <br />
