This evaluation process generates I tremendous amounts of data on the condition of mains, manholes and services for the prioritization of rehabilitation projects. A GIS will allow the evaluation data to be used with maintenance information to establish maintenance cycles, prioritize projects and facilitate work order completion. » Police Automation: Police Department has developed an automation plan, the backbone of which is full transition from mini-computer to a client-server platform. GIS is a natural complimentary extension of this network into additional data systems. The benefits of GIS is the ability to visually represent crime data geographically so that proper tactical and strategic responses can be planned. Our participation in GIS also makes crime and police data available to o~her users, while at the same time, giving the police department access to demographic data, helpful in strategic planning. » Zoning Atlas Project: This project vvill divide the City's zoning wall- map into 11 "xl 7" grids (much like a street atlas) for publication in a spiral bound book that can be easily stored ad accessed by various city departments. The atlas, and the individual pages contained in the atlas, can be offered for sale to developers, architects, engineers, site locators or other interested in zoning patterns in San Marcos. » Development Case History Proje.ct: This project is the development of a comprehensive database of administrative, Planning Commission and City Council approvals granted by the City of San Marcos. Development cases, including subdivision plats, zoning changes, specific use permits and land use amendments, are included in the database along with pertinent information on each case. » Elim Water System Acquisition: The city's acquisition of the.Elim system greatly expands the geographic area of the city's water system. Adding the Elim information into a GIS of the city's water distribution system can provide a tool to analyze connections, consumption and maintenance requirements for this rural system in comparison to the city system. It can also facilitate the determination of services, call times, and crew requirements for the system.
