Hays County Hazard Mitigation Plan, Hays County Annex <br />Demographically, the County economy continues to change as it continues to develop and grow. Listed <br />Organize and Review <br />as one of the nation’s 10 fastest growing counties with a population of at least 10,000 for 2017, the <br />population grew by nearly 10,000 new residents during 2016 (MacCormack, 2017). Major highways that <br />pass through Hays County include Interstate 35 (IH-35), U.S. Highway 290 (HWY 290), State Highway 21 <br />(HWY 21), and State Highway 80 (HWY 80). <br />Children in the unincorporated areas within Hays County attend schools within San Marcos Consolidated, <br />Dripping Springs Independent, Wimberley Independent and Hays Consolidated school districts. Hays <br />County’s main utility providers are shown in Table HC.1. <br />The planning area are governed by a County Judge and 4 elected Commissioners.
