Regular Meeting January 15, 2008 Page 2 <br />Erin and Patricia from Bobcat Build lead the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Citizen Comment Period. 1) Erin Jines, stated <br />she is the Student Director for Bobcat Build. She provided the Council <br />with an update on planning of events for this year. She stated there will <br />be a Press Conference on Friday, January 25, at City Hall at 3:00 p.m. She <br />also stated this year the Bobcat Build Day will be held on April 5, 2008. <br />2) Bill Hale stated he wished to speak regarding Item 24, discussion. He <br />stated he had a meeting with John Cooper regarding the Wireless Mesh. He <br />stated he believes the company has already put fiber in the ground and will <br />be a candidate to put technology into the subdivision whether the City <br />supports this or not. He stated he feels the Wireless Mesh will give San <br />Marcos an edge, since most Cities and developers do not provide. 3) Jude <br />Prather provided the Council a copy of American Planning Association which <br />featured a junked out car turned into a planter. He stated the APA is <br />supportive of these projects, but the City of San Marcos LDC and Downtown <br />Master Plan does not agree. He encouraged the Council to reconsider this <br />issue when the LDC is revisited. 4) Joe Ptak stated he wished to invite <br />the Council to stop by Planet K and help bash a car to turn into a cactus <br />planter. He stated since Planet K has been open, they have created 8 full <br />time jobs. He stated he had hoped to contribute to San Marcos culture, but <br />instead he has to fight a case over a cactus planter. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced Staff Report. Ms. Jamison stated she did not have <br />a report. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced Council Reports. 1) Mr. Jones stated San Marcos is <br />the Jewel of the corridor and Council needs to keep it clean. He provided <br />a slide show of pictures of dumpsters and stated he feels this is a health <br />and safety issue. He stated he feels there should be a policy to help <br />avoid these types of situations. 2) Mr. Thomaides thanked Lloyd Doggett <br />who spoke on Sunday and really cares about San Marcos. He stated he <br />attended a Debutant Ball hosted by the Heritage Society; he congratulated <br />them on a successful event. Mr. Thomaides also attended the Hills of Hays <br />meeting hosted by TxDOT. He stated TxDOT is working on a solution to their <br />traffic problems of entering and leaving neighborhood on Staples Rd. Mr. <br />Thomaides stated he also attended an Austin /San Antonio Commuter Rail <br />meeting. He stated there was discussion regarding dealing with a study <br />regarding services in the interim for relocation of freight rail. 3) Mr. <br />Guerrero thanked the Council and Commissioner's Court for the support to <br />the Hays Central Appraisal District board of directors. Mr. Guerrero <br />stated the EMS Director will be present on the February 19 Council Meeting <br />for direction the Council wants to pursue. Mr. Guerrero stated he will be <br />going back to school on Wednesday at St. Edwards University to work on his <br />Masters of Science, which is a two year program. 4) Mayor Narvaiz stated <br />she also attended the meeting with Hills of Hays and TxDOT. She stated <br />there should be a speed trailer located out there soon. She stated she <br />also attended the Debutante Ball, where the Grand Debs were recognized. <br />Mayor Narvaiz stated she also attended the Fire Department Ceremony, where <br />
