148

Emergency Meeting October 21, 1998 Page 2

another week before the Federal Emergency Management Administration
(FEMA) is present. Mr. Moseley wants information in the newspaper
regarding the process. Mr. Gilley stated most of the donations were
food and clothes and not much cash. Mr. Gilley stated the City
established twelve lines (hotline) and has received 50,000 calls.
(5) Damage Assessment - the City is building paperwork for FEMA of
all the damage. The Council will be visiting the damaged areas of
the City today. The City needs to provide a question and answer
section in the newspaper to assist the citizens until FEMA arrives.
Approximately 500 homes received 6 inches to 9 feet of water, 70
homes were red-tagged to be checked for electrical problems. Local
electricians are checking these homes for safety. The City has
obtained clearance from HUD to use CDBG funds to assist flood
damaged victims. No one was hurt or lost during the flood. Mr.
Patterson stated the City's number one priority was people, and
secondly building the data base to obtain assistance. The level of
damage can be mapped on the City's GIS mapping. The City is doing a
comprehensive survey of the infrastructure and buildings and we are
checking with other entities as well for their damage assessment.
The Council was provided a handout regarding assistance programs we
might be eligible to apply for.

The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. on motion made by Mr. Mihalkanin
and seconded by Mr. Hernandez.

ß~~.~
Çd //11 / IJ< ~ :¡,Bi~;~ G.
