Hopkins.
If you would like to donate perishable food items, please call 393-8400 so that City staff
can coordinate with the Red Cross to distribute food to our emergency shelter at the San Marcos
Activity Center. Approximately 25 to 30 families are still seeking shelter at the Activity Center.
Damage Assessment
City staff is working to assess damages in the community in order to submit a
Preliminary Assessment Report to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for
funding. Staff is going door-to-door making contact with flood victims and getting preliminary
estimates of damages.
At this time, the City estimates that 500 homes and businesses experienced some flood
damage. So far the City has identified 70 homes or businesses Ùat suffered one foot or more
water in the structure. The City has red-tagged these homes due to concerns about electrical
problems that may have resulted from flooding. Residents and businesses in the red-tagged
structures have been provided with a comprehensive instruction sheet that tells them how to
ensure the:¡;afety of their home or business. The City encourages these citizens to follow these
instructions before they re-occupy their home or business.
Cleanup Efforts
The City of San Marcos and BFI are providing dumpsters in the flood damage areas to
facilitate cleanup and disposal. The dumpsters will be rotated to all the neighborhoods that
received flood damage. If residents need help getting their damaged property from their home to
the dumpsters, please call Public Works at 393-8010 for assistance.
###
-
