<br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />January 22, 2001 <br /> <br />240. <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND CENTURYTEL <br />TELECOMMUNICATIONS, INC. FOR THE PROVISION OF LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE <br />SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THIS AGREEMENT ON <br />BEHALF OF THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />Mr. Moseley introduced for consideration Item 24 removed from the consent <br />agenda, approval of use of Contingency Funds for the Sesquicentennial <br />Committee for various expenses in the amount of $43,485.00. Mr. Mayhew <br />moved to approve the expenditure of $43,485.00 from Contingency Funds and <br />Ms. Tatum seconded the motion. Gwen Smith stated the Sesquicentennial <br />Committee wanted a lasting project that would be seen and remembered long <br />after the Sesquicentennial year. Ellie Stewart stated the <br />Sesquicentennial Committee wanted to focus on a beautification project and <br />concentrated on crepe myrtle cluster plantings in the Hopkins Street area. <br />Water conservation was a factor in the beautification project and that is <br />why the cluster plantings were decided upon. Ms. Stewart stated all the <br />Sesquicentennial Committee has enjoyed being involved in the planning of <br />the City's celebration. Diana Finlay, Chair of the Sesquicentennial <br />Committee, stated the Committee is also planning an old fashioned picnic <br />on March 3 for the community. The Committee is inviting folk dancers, <br />musicians, a mariachi band, the performance of scenes from ~The Music Man" <br />and much more. She stated the Traits (Roy Head and his band) of San <br />Marcos are getting together to perform at the picnic and stated their hit, <br />~Treat Her Right" had top billing for twenty weeks on the music charts in <br />the early sixties. The headliner for the picnic will be Terri Hendrix, <br />and Hill Rylander is in charge of the picnic celebration. The Council <br />thanked the Committee for their work in preparing for the year-long <br />celebration. <br /> <br />Mr. Moseley introduced Item 25 removed from the consent agenda, approval <br />of use of Economic Development Funds to purchase a new computer for the <br />City Council's Office in the amount of $1,633.58. Mr. Doiron moved for <br />approval of the expenditure from the Economic Development Funds and Ms. <br />Tatum seconded the motion. Ms. Hughson asked the Council who uses the <br />Council computer. Mr. Moseley stated he does and the computer is old, <br />slow and has had some problems. Mr. Doiron stated he uses the computer <br />and thinks there is a need to get a new one because the old one is slow. <br />On roll call the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br /> <br />Doiron, Moseley, Cox, Tatum. <br /> <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Hughson, Mayhew. <br /> <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />Mr. Moseley introduced a discussion regarding management of traffic <br />signals in the City. Mr. Doiron stated he asked this matter be agendized <br />to discuss because the traffic signalization through town is not <br />synchronized. Mr. Gilley stated Staff is working with TXDOT regarding the <br />
