<br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />April 9, 2001 <br /> <br />137. <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />wants language that reads the training should be completed before serving <br />in office. Mr. Mayhew wanted wording the Council would promote from the <br />alternate position. Ms. Hughson stated if the Commission was in a bind <br />and the Council appointed someone to the P&Z Commission, she wanted <br />wording the training would be completed within a certain period of time. <br />Mr. Taylor stated for clarification if others were allowed to sit in on a <br />training session, that would not count for training by our Ordinance. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced a discussion regarding Activity Center fees. <br />Council agreed to delay this discussion to another time. <br /> <br />The <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced a discussion regarding the June 2, 2001 Runoff <br />Election date. It was consensus of Council to hold the June 2 Runoff <br />Election jointly with the County's Bond Election if the City needs to hold <br />a Runoff Election. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced a discussion regarding the Austin Community College. <br />Mayor Chili stated he had met with Dr. Richard Fonte' and others regarding <br />core courses offered in San Marcos presently and the possibility of adding <br />to this curriculum. Mayor Chiu stated a committee will be formed to meet <br />periodically over the next six months to look at increasing ACC's <br />curriculum in San Marcos. Mayor Chiu stated the committee will consist of <br />the City of San Marcos, and representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, <br />Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, SMCISD, Texas Workforce, Hays County, Dr. <br />Paul Buntyn, ACC, San Marcos South side and North side. Mr. Moseley <br />stated a representative from Gary Job Corps should also be included. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced the City Manager's Report. <br />at this meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Gilley had no report <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced the City Attorney's Report. <br />report at this meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Taylor had no <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced the City Council's Report. (1) Ms. Tatum stated <br />when citizens speak, it is important to be sure all who speak only speak <br />three minutes. (2) Mr. Mayhew reminded the Council and public of the <br />flyer regarding the Spaghetti Dinner on April 27 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. to <br />benefit the Library Reading Program. (3) Mr. Cox stated at the TNRCC <br />public hearing recently held in New Braunfels, Mayor Chiu and Mr. Moseley <br />spoke in favor of additional acre feet from Canyon Lake. Mr. Cox stated <br />the majority of those who spoke were in favor of the additional acre feet. <br />(4) Cinco de Mayo kickoff will be April 21 at the Hays County Civic <br />Center and will be held the weekend of May 5. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the Government <br />Code, Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice regarding <br />pending litigation (Weatherford vs. City of San Marcos; 11 SLC, Ltd. vs. <br />City of San Marcos). Mr. Doiron moved the Council adjourn at 11:16 p.m. <br />and Mr. Moseley seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br />
