<br />182. <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />August 27, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 13 <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced a discussion regarding Resolutions on legislative <br />and other proposals to forward to the Texas Municipal League/National <br />League of Cities. (1) To support state legislation to establish vehicle <br />emission standards and to require vehicle inspections to enforce the <br />standards (Ms. Hughson requested the City support this matter next year). <br />(2) To support state legislation to expand the land use regulatory <br />authority of counties. (Ms. Hughson stated the City has supported this <br />issue before and Texas Cities need TML to be supportive and in general, to <br />work with the Texas Association of Counties when possible). (3) To <br />express opposition to an extension of the federal sales tax exemption for <br />Internet sales. (Mr. Mihalkanin wants the City to support this matter) . <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the Government <br />Code, Section 551.086, to discuss commercial or financial information the <br />City has received from a business prospect with which the City is <br />conducting economic development negotiations, or to deliberate the offer <br />of a financial or other incentive to such a business prospect (North IH35 <br />area), and Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice regarding <br />the Consent and Permit Ordinance for the El Paso Gas Transmission Company <br />(requested by Council during this meeting).
