Recreation Programs 4 <br /> 50+ PROGRAMS 411111111111.111.111.111111111111111111111111111111.111111111111 <br /> The goal of the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department's 50+ <br /> Program is to improve the quality of life of older adults through <br /> the encouragement of healthy, active lifestyles and by providing <br /> informational, instructive, physical,and social enhancement <br /> opportunities. <br /> • Adult Pickleball Open Play. Pickleball is offered at the San <br /> Marcos Activity Center and is a cross between badminton, <br /> tennis,and ping-pong. In the past 10 years,the growth of <br /> Pickleball has increased in senior communities across the <br /> country. <br /> • Bingo. Bingo offers great prizes and light snacks each <br /> month at the San Marcos Activity Center. <br /> • Blood Pressure Clinic. Residents can have their blood <br /> pressure and pulse checked free of charge at the San <br /> Marcos Activity Center. <br /> • San Marcos Active Senior Hotspot Social Club.The San <br /> Marcos Active Senior Hotspot(SMASH)program offers a <br /> meeting location for active senior adults to create a social <br /> network where they can meet others who have the same <br /> interests. <br /> • Bowling Socials. Each month at Sunset Bowling lanes, <br /> bowling is offered as part of the(SMASH)Social Club. (;) <br /> • Game Day.Game day occurs weekly in the afternoons <br /> at the San Marcos Activity Center. Light refreshments are <br /> provided as well as game materials for Bridge, Mexican <br /> Train Dominoes,42,and Hand and Foot. <br /> • Life Long Learning Classes. Intellectually stimulating, <br /> non-credit courses offered at the San Marcos Activity <br /> Center.These classes are designed to provoke involvement <br /> through communication and enjoyable education. <br /> • Sack Lunch Socials. For the luncheon program,(SMASH) <br /> sack Lunch Social and bingo participants provide their own <br /> sack lunch while socializing with friends.Sack Lunch Socials <br /> take place at the San Marcos Activity Center. <br /> • Social Spins.The Social Spin is provided by Central Texas <br /> Medical Center(CTMC), in partnership with the City of San <br /> Marcos.This event is a free, CREATION Health dance and <br /> mixer for active seniors at the San Marcos Activity Center. <br /> • Senior Expo.Occurring biennially,this free event connects <br /> seniors with goods, services,organizations,discounts,and <br /> clubs in the San Marcos area. <br /> • Golden Sweetheart's Ball.A Valentine's party with music <br /> by Sound Experience and a catered dinner at the San <br /> Marcos Activity Center. <br /> 0 <br /> 92 City of San Marcos, Texas San Marcos Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan <br />
