Womack <br />Mark Taylor <br />Ron Patterson <br />Ramona Brown <br /> <br />Also Present: <br />and others. <br /> <br />Carol Coughlin, Sharon Chiu, Richard Medina, Evelyn Meehan <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu lead the <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration Item 6, approval of expenditure <br />from Council Related Items in an amount not to exceed $1,000.00 to the <br />Department of Family and Consumer Sciences for the cost of materials for a <br />Satellite Children's Museum in San Marcos. Dr. Ann Johnson, Assistant <br />Professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, stated New <br />Braunfels has had a Children's Museum for several years, and they have <br />contacted Southwest Texas State University to assist them with <br />establishing a satellite Children's Museum in San Marcos. They are in <br />need to start-up funds for the museum and plan to maintain and expand the <br />museum through entrance fees and from parents whose children participate <br />at the museum. They will need the participation and involvement of the <br />San Marcos community and to date have received a $100.00 contribution from <br />a local business. Ms. Hughson inquired if the Parent-Teacher Organization <br />had been contacted, and Dr. Johnson advised they had not, and that the <br />students seeking funding will be in contact with the businesses at the <br />outlet malls. Dr. Johnson stated the New Braunfels Children's Museum will <br />manage the San Marcos satellite. Mr. Mayhew moved for approval of the <br />expenditure of $1,000.00 and Ms. Tatum seconded the motion. Mr. Cox <br />stated he has visited the New Braunfels Museum and found it to be <br />interesting and enriching. Mr. Cox stated he thinks youngsters could <br />profit from such a museum in San Marcos. Mr. Mayhew stated his children <br />have frequently visited the museum in New Braunfels.
