Mayor Chiu also thought it would be a good place for the Adult <br /> Literacy classes because it would be a more suitable location and the Performing Arts could <br /> utilize the theater at Lamar. Mayor Chiu stated the facility might also be used as a community <br /> day care center because there are many single parents who are on welfare and this would help <br /> parents obtain jobs. Mayor Chiu stated the Council should explore these possibilities. Mayor <br /> Chiu also suggested developing a River Commission and giving it the responsibility for issues <br /> such as river related programs, the Surface Water Treatment Plant, the Wastewater Treatment <br /> Plant, the River Interpretive Center, River Clean-up and the River Corridor Ordinance. Mayor <br /> Chiu also asked City Council to consider hiring a grant writer to look for grants available at the <br /> federal and state levels. (6) Mr. Doiron suggested looking into naming streets for persons who <br /> should be recognized such as George Strait. Mr. Moseley suggested Charles Austin. <br /> Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration an Executive Session pursuant to Government Code, <br /> Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice regarding development incentive proposal <br /> IH35 South area/McCarty. Ms. Hughson moved to adjourn into Executive Session at 10:07 p.m. <br /> and Ms. Tatum seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> Mr. Doiron moved to reconvene from Executive Session at 10:28 p.m. and Mr. Mosely seconded <br /> the motion which passed unanimously. <br /> The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m. on a motion made by Mr. Moseley and seconded by Mr. <br /> Doiron.
