City Council Meeting Minutes January 11, 2020 <br />• City Facilities — Remove, City Staff will continue working on this <br />• Workforce Development - requested modifications: <br />- Change App for Courses to Online Courses <br />- Explore day labor program, can be accomplished by contracting with social <br />services <br />• Downtown Vitality - requested modifications: <br />- Promote City Grant programs, not solely BIG Program <br />- look at ways to incentivize vacant buildings and how to occupy them, talk <br />with building and business owners <br />- Inspections for vacant buildings <br />- Work with County and TIRZ #5 (Downtown) Board to work towards <br />downtown improvements, this can be accomplished by extending the TIRZ, <br />look for possible grant opportunities <br />- Advertise through Lions Club Agreement by highlighting nearby city facilities <br />and capitalizing on heavy traffic <br />Council consensus yesterday was to add sustainability as an additional <br />strategic priority. <br />• Sustainability - requested modifications since yesterday: <br />- Change the word "hire" consultant to "consider" consultant to assess <br />baseline, or work with Texas State. <br />- Look at vehicle replacement/building update schedule <br />- Sustainability Committee will consider first then recommend to Council <br />The following Council Committees were discussed the following direction was <br />provided: <br />• Workforce Housing — committee will remain active <br />- Work on Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects <br />- Committee will look at policy report and make amendments and will bring to <br />council <br />• Student Housing Committee — This committee had discussed converting this <br />to a committee to look into a Tenant Council for San Marcos. Staff will see <br />how we can provide more assistance through the Austin's Tenant Council. <br />-Alcohol CUP Committee — Noise Ordinance will make it to this committee at <br />a future date so this committee will remain active until that time. <br />City of San Marcos Page 2 <br />
