City Council Meeting Minutes January 7, 2020 <br />staff that could participate since this is an all hands project. Mr. Lumbreras <br />will also work to identify funding sources that could contribute beyond the <br />request the City has with the County. Mayor Pro Tem Mihalkanin noted that <br />funds allocated for his stipend could be available as he cannot accept the funds <br />due this his employment with Texas State. <br />14. Receive a Staff update regarding the advertising and marketing program of the <br />Convention and Visitor Bureau to promote tourism in the City, and provide direction to the <br />City Manager. <br />Mayor Hughson, introduced this item and seeks council opinion. Discussion <br />was held with the Convention and Visitor Bureau Staff regarding the number <br />of people that are coming from out of town to enjoy the river and how <br />residents who are paying for services are not able to enjoy the river. Council <br />asked the Convention and Visitor Bureau to stop advertising the river on the <br />tourism San Marcos website. <br />Council Member Mihalkanin suggested that we promote places on the website <br />that brings in tax revenues. Council Member Mihalkanin expressed his <br />concerns with information on the City's website being incorrectly produced by <br />Google. It was noted this is not our CVB site that is providing outdated <br />information. Bert Lumbreras mentioned that we are having staff update the <br />website and webpages. Mr. Lumbreras also suggested that if something is <br />incorrect on the website to send over an email and a staff will correct it right <br />away. <br />Consensus is to move forward with advertising that brings visitors to the City <br />such as the: Outlet Mall, Cultural events, Trail System/Greenspaces, and not <br />just the river or parks. Staff will add a link for Visitor Services on the website <br />below Helpful Links. Council Member Baker suggested that we also add <br />information on a river clean up on the website listed under 20 things to do. <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />15. Executive Session in accordance with the following Government Code Sections: <br />A. Section § 551.072 - Real Property: to receive a staff briefing and deliberation <br />regarding acquisition of property in Downtown San Marcos for Public Use. <br />B. Section § 551.071 - Consultation with Attorney: to receive a staff briefing and <br />deliberation regarding Martindale ETJ Matters. <br />No Executive Session was necessary this evening. <br />16. Consider action, by motion, regarding the following Executive Session items held during <br />the Work Session: <br />A.
