He stated he is opposed <br />to a smoking ban. He feels he would lose 40% of his business. 5) Bill <br />McCorkle, owner of Gold Crown Billiards, stated he wished to speak on Item <br />22, revisions to City smoking regulations. He stated he has been in <br />business for 12 weeks and a smoking ban would take away from his business. <br />6) Or en Renick, Professor of Health Care Administration at Southwest Texas <br />university, stated he wished to speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking <br />regulations. He urged Council to use objective data and strengthen the <br />current Ordinance. 7) Dr. Emilio Caranco, Southwest Texas State University, <br />stated he wished to speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking <br />regulations. He stated no smoking was passed at Southwest Texas Stated <br />University. He stated second hand smoke is a health threat and feels <br />people have a right to breathe clean air. He urged Council to protect the <br />public health. 8) Matthew Lattaie stated he wished to speak on Item 22, <br />revisions to City smoking regulations. He stated he has been a resident of <br />San Marcos for 10 years. He opposes a smoking ban and will have to stop <br />eating at local restaurants if he cannot enjoy a cigarette after his meals. <br />9) Allison Jacobs, stated she wished to read a letter written on behalf of <br />VFW Post 3413 regarding Item 22, revisions to City smoking regulations. <br />The letter opposed the smoking ban, which they feel would violate civil <br />liberties. 10) Nettie Hartsock stated she wished to speak on Item 22, <br />revisions to City smoking regulations. She urged Council to strengthen the <br />current smoking Ordinance and protect public health. 11) Rachel Ruiz, San <br />Marcos High School student, stated she wished to speak on Item 22, <br />revisions to City smoking regulations. She supports strengthening the <br />smoking Ordinance. She stated she feels City Government should protect <br />public health. 12) Lori Garcia, San Marcos High School student, stated she <br />wished to speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking regulations. She <br />stated she does not want to lose family or friends to lung cancer. She <br />urged the Council to vote to strengthen the Ordinance. 13) Dr. Huang, <br />Texas Department of Health, stated he wished to read a letter regarding <br />Item 22, revisions to City smoking regulations. His letter stated second- <br />hand smoke causes serious threat to health, especially to children. He <br />stated he feels public policies would help people cut back and quit <br />smoking. 14) Jaime Doty, San Marcos Clean Air Now, stated she wished to <br />speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking regulations. She stated the <br />Constitution does not guarantee smokers the right to smoke and feels the <br />Constitution was created to protect all the people. She urged the Council <br />to protect all the citizens. 15) James Gray, American Cancer Society, <br />stated he wished to speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking <br />regulations. He urged Council to strenghten the smoking Ordinance to <br />address second-hand smoke. 16) Dr. Kermit Welch, Orthodontist, stated he <br />wished to speak on Item 22, revisions to City smoking regulations. He <br />stated he was involved in getting the first Ordinance adopted and he had <br />always planned to come back to Council to strengthen the Ordinance. He <br />urged the Council to do the right thing for the citizens of San Marcos. <br />17) Billy McNabb, South San Marcos Action Committee, stated he wished to <br />speak on Item 28, discussion regarding disannexation of Southwest San <br />Marcos area. He stated he appreciates the Council discussing the matter. <br />He feels the residents in this area have been deprived of services promised <br />
