SAN MARCOS TRANSIT PLAN I FINALREPORT <br />City of San Marcos <br />Anew transit plaza is recommended forthe western side of Edward Gary Streetbetween <br />University Drive and Hutchison Street, on the eastern edge of downtown San Marcos. This <br />location is directly adjacent to Texas State University and there cently constructed City of San <br />Marcos mobilityhub on Hutchison Street. <br />Reorienting San Marcos Transit routes to downtown will improve local transit access to Texas <br />State University and downtown employment/retail/entertainment/recreational destinations. The <br />proposed downtown transit plaza is located directly south of Texas State University's Edward <br />Gary Street Garage, which is open to the public and could be marketed along with CARTS <br />Interurban bus service to San Marcos residents commuting to Austin. <br />Additional potential enhancementsto the downtowntransit plazainclude: <br />■ Street trees to complement bus stop shelters and reduce urban heat island effect <br />■ Highly -visible crosswalks and pavement markingstomaximize pedestrian safety <br />■ Wayfinding and real-time arrival displaysto inform transit riders andvisitors <br />■ Bike racks to promote multimodal transportation options <br />■ Placemaking features such as entry archways and public art <br />■ A restroom forbus operators (leased or newly constructed) <br />■ Customer service center for transit riders (leased or newly constructed) <br />The southbound bus stops along Edward Gary Street provide sufficient curb spacefor San Marcos <br />Transit and CARTS Interurban buses. Inbound Bobcat Shuttlebuses show d use the northbound <br />bus stop along Edward Gary Street. Additional bus stops along University Drive and/or <br />Hutchison Street couldbe added for Bobcat Shuttle routes, if desired. <br />Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, Inc. 13-6 <br />
